Dad Fever Fortune

Autobiographical character

Fred is an autobiographical character that was created in during the Quiet Year game. He is a very timid yet adventurous person. He is a very curious person and will follow anything that interests him. He has no self-restraint and will put his life at risk to just figure out what is happening. Fred always likes to be included in things so that could a reason that he is so curious.

Set In the world of The Quiet Year or The School Year games ***OR*** Inspired by your dérive

This game was set in the world of The Quiet Year. This game follows Fred who is left as the sole survivor of the world after the devastation. This game looks into his past and how he ended up getting to where he was in The Quiet Year.

Travesty Generator and/or CharNG

I always like using these kinds of generators because you never know what you’re going to get when you input text. I used this because a character got disoriented during a certain ending and I thought it would be a cool touch to add some jumbled-up mess to simulate how he could be thinking.

Googlism

I also really like the “Googlism” generator because it always has pretty funny one-liners that I always like to include in my work. I input “Fred” and one of the first phrases I saw was “Fred is Dead.” I decided to use this at the end when Fred actually dies in the game.

Crowdsourcing

This one is always tricky, especially now when my friends are focused on finals I feel like they don’t really have time to be helping me. My friends helped me come up with the concept of Fred and also helped me flush out some ideas.

n+7

Similar to the “Travesty Generator” I used this for one of my endings. During this ending, I had the original text and what the n+7 had generated for me and tied them together with a couple of sentences about how he is thinking one thing but actually means another.

Transcription -- use Otter.ai

Like for my old project, I didn’t find this to be useful because when it is transcribed it basically outputs the same thing. I did use it for a couple of passages but it basically outputs the exact same thing.

Oblique Strategies cards

I do find the oblique strategies to be useful when I get stumped. The ones I used were: Be less critical more often, do nothing for as long as possible, accept advice, do something boring, and the most important thing is the thing most easily forgotten. I find that I can use these for different types of projects and other things besides projects for this class.

botnik.org / Voicebox - Predictive Writer

I used this to write the description for my game. It gave me some pretty funny and interesting suggestions. I used the 2017 Wired Product Reviews database and it gave me a lot of weird words that I would not have normally thought of.

Anagram Generator

This is also one of my favorites. I imputed “The Adventures of Fred” and got a lot of good answers, most of which didn’t make any sense. I normally like to use these for titles for my games/projects. The title I got was “Dad Fevers Fortune” and I changed it to “Dad Fever Fortune.” I feel like the names are completely random and have nothing to do with the game which I think is a good thing so the person playing the game doesn’t know what the expect.
